So – what an afternoon! In HMP YOI Low Newton this afternoon we performed the play created with the wonderful Open Clasp Theatre Co to an audience of sixty women prisoners plus staff. The cast consisted of three women prisoners and three female professional actors performing the work produced working with an initial group of twelve female prisoners for our project Key Change. I was utterly blown away by the power of the performance. The emotion in the room was palpable and at times paralysing and it was obvious it touched, moved and challenged every person in the audience, prisoner or not. Next step is for us to take the production into the male prisons HMP Frankland, HMP Durham and HMYOI Deerbolt before our public audience at Live Theatre on 7th June. If you haven't bought your tickets yet I'd urge you to. Believe me, you don't want to miss this only opportunity to see the work outside of prison – five hours after it finished and I'm still feeling very emotional….
