I'm an artist and I've received grants. Want to know what I do with all that money? | Zoe Coombs...

Contrary to popular opinion, I don’t spend my grant money on lollies or trips to Disneyland. I’m supposed to, you know, have a budget

Last year as part of our large portfolio of work in North East prisons Dilly Arts devised and managed a project working with female prisoners in HMP YOI Low Newton designed to take their voices to male prisons and a public audience. Dilly Arts commissioned Open Clasp Theatre Co to work with the women to produce a piece of theatre that went on to become Key Change, toured to male prisons and sell out audiences at the Live Theatre Newcastle. We are delighted to announce that Key Change will be going to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this year opening on 8th August! A huge thanks and congratulations to the entire team behind this stunning work - most of all to the prison staff who supported our vision and to the women who trusted our process and shared their stories which will now be heard by an even bigger, international audience! The animated films made by the women and male prisoners, working with artist Lindsay Duncanson and writer Richard W Hardwick as the vital second part of this project will be available to watch very soon on our website www.dillyarts.org.uk

Fantastic morning spent in HMP YOI Low Newton with textile artist Kate Jackson and the women working on the Dilly Arts' quilting project - some beautiful work. Photos to be shared on Dilly Arts' website in due course. So pleased that some of the quilts are already finding their ways home to the women's children and families - now developing plans to extend and widen the project over the coming months including hopefully supporting a mentor programme and staff professional development.... And increasing our participation base as there's so much enthusiasm from the women to get involved!

Our huge thanks to the wonderfully talented Kate Jackson and all the staff supporting the project, not to mention the women who are devoting hours and hours to this work in session time and on their own!
