Lenor softness …

Today is the first Tuesday in a month that I am at home. While putting Lenor in in the washing machine this morning, I thought of the lads in Deerbolt and smiled. Lenor has taken on a whole new meaning for me now. By the size of this bottle I could quite be the ‘Big-I-Am’ in Deerbolt but maybe I need more than one for that kind of status? Thank you to this project as my time spent in Deerbolt...

…. 42 – that’s how many participants I’ve worked with over the course of this project. Last session with the lads the other day. Mainly finishing off audio and collecting a few extra bits of artwork. Was the first session that Tony, Sheree and I have delivered together. Shame we hadn’t been able to deliver more sessions together. We were still getting new people along to sessions who had either just arrived at Deerbolt or through word of mouth had...

Finding Your Voice …

It was Sheryl and I’s last day in Deerbolt yesterday. It was a different day again. For a start Tony was in with us. So all three artists were in for the day and it was great. It was a chance to see what the project would have been like if we had all been able to get into the prison on the same day. The project would have been amazing.  Of more emphatically, off the hook! We worked so...

Who Are You?

Proceedings were slow last week ( my third week in). But I’m not saying this in any negative way as it gave me the chance to work one -to -one with the writers and really begin to ‘see’ them them. The task was to use a photograph/postcard to  answer  a number of questions with quick fire responses about the characters they saw in the image. The questions included: Who is in the photograph? What is their name? Where is the...

Wish You Were Here …

Week two took on a different rhythm than the first week.  Things were moving at a slower pace and the faces were different.  But it was still a good week for words. While talking to Sheryl over lunch, we were mulling over ideas about how to link the different pieces of animation on the film. We needed something that would create some kind of whole. We came up with the idea of using postcards. The idea was to use...

I didn’t know what to expect.  I had two bags full of resources I could draw upon once I got in there. That was if they let me in as I was so excited about getting in,  I forgot my photo ID.  The short story; I gained entry, smiling sweetly. First off, I got to see what had already been created through the writing folders as well as the film in progress. But here’s the rub; it’s difficult to come...

Untitled?

It’s been a while since the last update.  We’re coming to the end of sessions at Deerbolt and I’ve been busy pulling together artwork and editing bits and pieces.  As part of our first session back we viewed a rough edit of the work so far to see how things were coming together and to help the group understand how their work looks when it’s animated. I think the animation process can be difficult to get your head around if...

“I’ve learnt about artwork and the creative stuff.”

Our last session before the Christmas break. The wing have been working on Christmas decorations so there’s been a lot of creative activities going on and a good, positive atmosphere. With regards the animation, a couple of us worked out a plan for how everything we’ve been working on so far will come together. We have a selection of random ideas which need linking together to make a coherent film but still retain the sense of each individual’s work. We...

I was just thinking, while scanning some artwork, that it might have been a good idea to focus on creating animated work that’s cameraless. Flickaclip.co.uk takes film footage and converts to a series of images: The group enjoyed the flick books I showed them earlier on. It’s a little late to think about it now because we’re in the middle of other things but maybe in the future it would be a good idea to focus, especially in a prison...

People and places…

People in places with motives and emotions this week. Some great ideas (and ones I fancy borrowing!). Experimenting with short contained pieces and trying something new each session. A real variety of themes has emerged and a lot of chat about reality versus fiction – whether it’s easy to tell and how much it matters…
